The thing people love most about diners is that they’re family friendly. Everyone can order what they want to eat – moms and dads can order adult food, and there’s plenty of choices for the rest of your hungry family – even your pickiest kids.
When our kids were young, our family ate at a lot of Long Island diners. Wendy and I shared food from our plates when the kids were really little, then let them make their own choices from the kid’s menu as they grew up. We’re carrying on that tradition here at Max & Louie’s – with special dishes and portions perfectly scaled for kids 10 and under.
Importantly, especially for picky eaters and kids who struggle to “clean their plates,” many of the items are “Honey I shrunk the Kids” sizes of our regular dishes – like the adult servings of silver dollar pancakes, French toast, cheesy scrambled eggs, and our cheeseburgers.
Don’t get me wrong. These are still the generous portions Max & Louie’s is known for – just generously right-sized for kids. And we include a glass of milk or a soft drink with every kid’s entree.
Max & Louie’s also makes it fun for kids by including special items too. Examples include our open-face bagel topped withour homemade pizza sauce and gooey cheese, or in kid’s parlance: a giant Bagel Bite. We also serve a perfectly a kid-sized ice cream sundae with a cherry on top. If you want to make your kid feel grown up, nothing’s more fun than a classic Shirley Temple cocktail for making kids feel like an adult.
My favorite thing about the kid’s menu is hearing comments from the kids themselves. Click the video link below to hear what some of our favorite little guests have to say about what they love to eat at Max & Louie’s.
Everything we serve here at Max & Louie’s New York Diner has a backstory and a place in our heart. I hope you’ll come in soon and try something new, something nostalgic, or something steeped in tradition.
And while you’re here, ask for me and let me know what you thought of this blog. I’ll see you soon.
